SAN PEDRO
Wachuma, also known as San Pedro, is a sacred cactus medicine with ancient roots in the Andean Mountains of Peru. This plant medicine is considered as a masculine Father plant teacher, guiding individuals through profound spiritual journeys. Wachuma helps people confront their deepest shadows, enabling them to overcome inner barriers and experience a sense of Heaven on Earth.
San Pedro is one of Peru's four most sacred plants, alongside Tobacco, Ayahuasca, and Coca. Some of its Indigenous names include huachuca and chuma. Shamans used this sacred plant as early as 1500 B.C. in various Peruvian cultures. When the Spanish arrived, they renamed the cactus San Pedro—"Saint Peter." The Spanish saw Wachuma as a key to Heaven's gates, changing its name to "San Pedro."
Natives and shamans typically prepare San Pedro by slicing and then boiling pieces of the stem for several hours; then, the resulting tea is consumed orally. While it is bitter, the taste is generally bearable. San Pedro can also be ingested in powdered form, which is made by drying out the cactus. People who embark on sacred journeys with Wachuma often report uncovering and addressing previously unknown emotional burdens, returning from these experiences feeling lighter and more capable of moving beyond their past struggles.

How can San Pedro help us?
-
You will experience a better connection with nature. For example, you will perceive the aura of trees, animals, rivers, lakes, and people. Therefore, the ceremonial place is very important for San Pedro ceremonies; it is the most critical part of the ceremony, a fact well-understood by the shaman.
-
Healing. On different levels, San Pedro's energy harmonizes the chakras, enhancing the benefits of practices such as Reiki, reflexology, kinesiology, massages, Tai Chi, and yoga. The San Pedro shaman is one of the first practitioners of hands-on healing techniques.
-
Opens our creativity. It is very good for artists, painters, musicians, and dancers because it opens our eyes to the beauty of Mother Earth and all her wonders.
-
Visions. This visionary state is associated with this cactus. Few people can truly immerse themselves, but you know you have reached the spirit knowledge of San Pedro when you start to have visions. These visions are vivid experiences.
